SEARCH FOR THE LOST CITY OF GOLD
The travel writer Tahir Shah leads a team to Peru in search of Paititi, the lost city of the Incas. It is enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. Shah may be a kind and thoughtful person when he is not making documentaries, but in this film he comes across as mean-spirited, self-important and deeply silly. As the expedition heads into the jungle, the going gets tougher and the likelihood of success becomes even more remote. Shah, however, perseveres stubbornly with his routine from Apocalypse Now. "I knew the ruins were close, I could feel them. And I was closing in." Yes dearie.
